Per a good friend of mine (Fyrekat) on Live Journal:
These scans are being offered on a non-profit educational basis, and only because the original book is no longer available, the editions being kept in libraries are few and far between, and- from my experience- are in deteriorating condition. If anyone resumes publication of this book, they will be removed from this site. Please buy an original copy if a reprint ever comes out!
te Velde, H, Set: God of Confusion. Leiden: E. J. Brill, 1977.
The following quote is from her Journal:
“This is a book which is acclaimed as the defining work in the Egyptological study of the ntjr Stkh. It's an old book, so not all of the information reflects our most modern Egyptology, but there hasn't been any book written since this work which more thoroughly investigates the mysteries of Stkh in His original cultural context. It's also Out of Print, and has been for quite some time- the only way you can get yourself a copy is to hunt down a used one for sale (very rare) or borrow one of the old tattered copies that is passed around through the Inter-Library Loan (ILL) program. I've written to the original publishers, asking how likely it would be that this book would ever be reprinted, and what would have to be done to bring this about, but they never even responded to me. So I'm taking that as a "No, not very likely," and assuming that they would rather put their efforts toward printing new manuscripts and adding to our pool of resources than to reprint old ones and preserve what has already been offered. Understandable.
The actual text begins on scan 13, for those not interested in Tables of Contents, Prefaces, Introductions, and Lists of Illustrated Plates.”
I will present them is the same fashion as she did to preserve their integrity. Hopefully with both of us preserving them they will not be lost to time.
To discuss the book, and share your impressions and ideas, please visit her Digital Papyrus posts, and leave your comments there for the rest of us to read and relate to the experience of Stkh.
Therefore without further ado, I give you Set: God of Confusion
